1959 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Chevrolet Model Car
Just 9,670 units of the corvette roadster were produced in 1959 and sold at the base price of $3,875. This was the last year that annual sales of the Corvette were below 10,000 units. The external changes to the car were the removal of the louvered hood and the chrome trim on the trunk lid. Among the standard features were a tachometer, an outside rearview mirror, an electric clock and twin exhausts. The gauge lenses were now concave to eliminate glare and improve readability. During the first year of production the options available included a 4-speed manual transmission with reverse lockout "T" shift handle and a black interior.

Spotter’s Guide for 1955-1959 Chevrolet Trucks
One of the most significant developments at Chevrolet was the Cameo truck. This fiberglass-fendered styling exercise was so dazzling when it debuted that people instantly realized the importance it carried with it. Chevrolet built 10,000 Cameos during the four years it produced them. During the '58 model year, Chevrolet introduced the first Fleetside body style. The bed featured double walls, and the tailgate used chains to hold it in a horizontal position while owners loaded cargo into the truck. By the '59 season, the Fleetside had outshone the Cameo, but then the exciting new El Camino made its debut.

1959 Chevrolet Airport Stretch
This 1959 Chevrolet Biscayne Airport Limousine (stretched by Armbruster Stageway) was found in a barn in Texas in rough but restorable condition. To enter it as the first antique stretch vehicle into Land Yacht's fleet of antique limousines, some improvements and modifications had to be entertained, not to mention a complete restoration as well. It was decided that a fairly current drive train would be installed, as the relatively original drive trains in Land Yacht's other vehicles made for more frequent maintenance, parts location difficulty and the attendant high cost. They do make 'em better today! Bullet proof Chevy small block 400 powerplant (with throttle body injection,) 700R4 overdrive tranny, front power discs, add on ABS, etc. The drivers...
4Car Feature - Mould-breaking Americana - from Channel 4
The Chevrolet Corvair became a by-word for dodgy handling, but in many ways it was an admirably different car from a company that traditionally played things very straight. A response to the huge influx of low-priced European economy cars into the North American market in the late '50s, it had a rear-mounted, air-cooled, flat-six engine and fully independent suspension in a modern body. Bereft of fins or tinsel, it was clearly intended to have enduring appeal.
Musclecarclub.com - Chevrolet El Camino - History
Comments: The El Camino debuted in 1959 based on the Impala platform to compete with Ford's Ranchero. The name meant "The Road" in Spannish, and Chevrolet stressed its car like platform and styling, which was combined with the functionality of a truck bed. The El Camino was based on the Impala, and shared the Impala's wild styling, including its trademark "cat's eyes" taillights and wings. Comments: The El Camino underwent an extensive restyling in its second year, which mirrored the changes to the Impala. The wings and taillights were toned down a bit (though still pretty wild) and the body lines were a bit more angular. Despite the relative success of the El Camino, Chevrolet ceased production after 1960. Comments: The 1971 was not immune from the general collapse of muscle car performance. In response to GM's edict that all engines ran on unleaded fuel and to meet ever restrictive emission standards, Chevrolet detuned all its engines which resulted in large drops in engine output. The 402 engine that was previously still known as a 396 was renamed the "Turbo Jet 400" and offered only 300bhp, down from 3500bhp. The 375bhp version was no longer available. The LS6 454 was also killed, but the LS5 454 returned with 365bhp, an increase of 5bhp from 1970. All El Caminos got the new single headlight design from the Monte Carlo and could be optioned with hood stripes and the cowl induction hood. The SS package was again only available on the Custom Pickup and included a special instrumentation panel with a black steering wheel and column and an "SS" hub emblem.
