Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger Concepts Being Readied for '06 ...
Edmunds Inside Line is reporting that Chevrolet and Dodge are headed for an RWD concept-car showdown at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show, with Chevy unveiling a new Camaro prototype and Dodge introducing a two-door Challenger concept. Both companies, it's said, are evaluating potential entries to compete with Ford's new Mustang - though any new model from either company likely won't likely appear before 2008 for Dodge, and 2009 for Chevrolet.

The Chevrolet Camaro was first introduced in mid-year 1966 as a 1967 model. It is credited with helping to redefine American automobiles. The car was designed to combat the very popular Ford Mustang. It had a similar design in terms of both appearance and optional equipment. The base price of the Camaro was a mere $2,466 for the standard coupe outfitted with a six cylinder engine.

Adding $458 to the $2,726 base price of a Camaro coupe, RPO Z28 included the F41 handling suspension with E70x15 raised-letter tires on seven-inch wide rims, quicker steering, and twin rally stripes. Front disc brakes were standard on the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, and for the first time, four-wheel discs were offered.

Chevrolet Camaro SS - can Chrysler do RWD V8s
Yes, the Camaro has some insane features, including the old and illogical 1970s keys - one for the ignition, one for the doors! - the crazy GM cruise-turn signal-washer-wiper stalk that cannot do any of those tasks well - and the big heavy doors. Visibility is hampered by the convertible top, especially on the sides and in the rear. However, it is still an almost unbelievable performer, providing even inexperienced drivers with excellent control. And, as long as drivers understand the limits of traction - especially on wet roads - the Camaro will do its best to keep them out of the ditch. Those who remember older Camaros will be amazed by the difference.

While he's not exactly sure who the "typical buyer" for a $400,000 to $500,000 700-horsepower Camaro might be, Schorr pointed to the current market in highly collectible muscle cars, including classic Baldwin Motion Camaros from the 1960s and '70s.

2002 Chevrolet Camaro Car Review - Edmunds.com
This year marks the Camaro's 35th anniversary. The original Camaro debuted in 1967 as General Motor's response to the popularity of Ford's new Mustang. Based on the upcoming '68 Nova, the Camaro was a pretty serious performance car from day one. Chevy offered it as a coupe or a convertible, and it came with a variety of engines, the biggest being a 375-horsepower 396-cubic-inch V8. The Camaro comes in either coupe or convertible format. For each, two trim levels are available: base or the high-performance Z28. Air conditioning, cruise control and power windows and locks are standard. For 2002, all cars except the V6 coupes have a "Monsoon" premium audio system as standard. There are also quite a few ways to customize the Camaro. Coupes can be ordered with T-top roof with glass removeable panels. Though physically large on the outside, the four-seat Camaro is not particularly roomy on the inside. Some drivers will find the seating uncomfortable and the car's interior materials and controls have a cheap feel to them. On the coupe, the generally useless rear seats fold down to increase cargo capacity.
