CRASH COURSE: The '03 Cavalier has not yet been crash-tested by the government or by private testing organizations. The '02 models earned seven stars out of 10 (coupe) or eight stars out of 10 (sedan) on the government's frontal crash test. Performance in side-impact tests was poor. The coupe earned three stars out of 10 and the sedan four stars out of 10.

CanadianDriver: Used Car Review - 1995-98 Chevrolet Cavalier
The first major redesign of Cavalier came in '95. Besides a sleek new look, the highlight of the all-new body structure was the repositioning of road wheels further apart. Its wider track and longer wheelbase allowed more interior space and made it a more stable and better handling vehicle. Always a price leader, even as a used vehicle, the immensely popular Cavalier naturally fits into 'safety-in-numbers' category. Good basic transportation - and parts and servicing are never a problem.

2005 Chevrolet Cavalier - New Car Reviews - Edmunds.com
First introduced in the spring of 1981, the Cavalier has been Chevrolet's entry-level import fighter for more than two decades now. The philosophy behind the Chevrolet Cavalier is simple: Give customers with limited budgets a well-appointed, reliable car that offers a variety of configurations to suit their needs. Improvements over the years have kept the Chevrolet Cavalier competitive, but the current model has languished without a major redesign since 1995. The fact that the sporty Z24 and convertible coupe models are no longer available further reduces the Cavalier's ability to distinguish itself from the import and domestic competition. The all-new Chevrolet Cobalt will take over the small-car reins after the 2005 model year, the Cavalier's final bow. Antilock brakes are optional on all models, except the Special Value coupe. Side airbags for front occupants are available on LS and LS Sport models as an option. Each seating position has a three-point seatbelt standard, and LS and LS Sport can be equipped with OnStar telematics. Crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) produced middling results. The Cavalier earned four out of five stars for the driver and front passenger in the frontal impact crash test but only one star for the driver in the side-impact test (a Cavalier equipped with side airbags has yet to be tested).

1999 Chevrolet Cavalier
Chevrolet's Cavalier is the best-selling small car in an extremely competitive market of compacts. First offered in 1997, the Rally Sport sits in the middle of the Cavalier spectrum, although there is nothing middling about this car. The Cavalier is a fun car to drive, one that enjoys being tossed around. Its light weight adds to the fun. The front suspension uses McPherson struts and coil springs. In the rear, trailing tubular control arms locate wheels along with a twist beam axle. The suspension is taut and gives the driver a good feel for the road, yet the Cavalier RS handles road bumps with aplomb. The Cavalier Coupe appeals to younger buyers; and more than half are female. The Cavalier Rally Sport is a likeable car due to its styling and its excellent standard equipment, both appealing to younger shoppers. In appearance, the Rally Sport lives up to its name.

2003 Chevrolet Cavalier
Chevrolet Cavalier comes in two body styles, two-door Coupe and four-door Sedan. They are trimmed and priced about the same (Sedans are priced $150 higher) and their dimensions are essentially the same. Chevy Cavalier gets a fresh new look for 2003. The front and rear of the car are new, with a redesigned hood, fascia, headlamps and grille, and a new rear fascia and tail lamps. The LS Sport model also has new rocker moldings and integrated fog lamps. Chrome aluminum wheels, body-color door handles, body-color exterior mirrors are available on selected models. The front end displays Chevy's new gold bowtie emblem, featured on the newest 2003 and 2004 models in the Chevrolet lineup. Chevrolet Cavalier has a nice interior design and the interior materials appear to be of decent quality. A hood over the instruments sweeps organically over to the passenger side giving it a contemporary appearance. The thick, contoured steering wheel in the LS Sport Sedan feels good. Power window switches are located on the center console, however, harder to find and more awkward to operate than when they're on the door.
