2006 Chevrolet Cobalt Prices and Review
The larger of Chevrolet's two compact cars expands model and engine choices for 2006. Cobalt is costlier than Chevy's smaller Korean-built Aveo. It offers sedans and coupes that share a basic design and 4-cyl powertrains with the Ion from GM's Saturn division, though Cobalt coupes lack Ion's rear access doors. Both body styles come in LT, LS, and new SS trim. Also new is the SS Supercharged coupe and LTZ sedan. Since so many vehicles look alike, the Consumer Guide® 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt new-vehicle review includes an extensive photo gallery. The 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt features a selection of interior and exterior images.
Chevrolet Cobalt SS - Automobile Magazine
For all of this goodness, the Cobalt SS still doesn't quite have the athletic edge of the slower, less-refined Focus and Mazda 3. The Cobalt's electric power steering smothers most of the road feel, and the thick, vibration-absorbing rim of the steering wheel takes care of the rest.
Chevrolet Cobalt LS car reviews
The Chevrolet Cobalt returns to the traditional Chevy car style in many ways, aside from the Corvette-like round tail-lamps. It takes the standard small car and adds a certain touch of class and comfort, and sells at a small premium if you ignore the rebates. The interior has a quality look absent from many competitors, and the ride is smoother without giving up much in cornering. Speaking of quirks, one of the cost-cutting moves on the Cobalt which allows for a good-looking interior and boatloads of features is the lack of an easy way to tilt the driver's seat forward and let people into the back. Back-seat passengers are apparently encouraged to use the passenger side, which is all very well unless people don't want to travel the length of the back seat to sit down, or the right-hand passenger doesn't want to get out to let someone else out. Even today, an American car, the SRT-4, is generally acknowledged to be at the top of its class in performance, and a supercharged version of the Cobalt is more capable than just about any Japanese car in its price range (and for that matter any American car save the aforementioned SRT-4).

Fortunately, Chevrolet has ended the Cavalier's 23-year model run with the introduction of the Cobalt. Built on an all-new platform (shared with the Saturn ION), the Cobalt shares very little with its aged predecessor, and certainly looks modern enough to merit admiration. As for performance, the Ecotec has gained 5 horsepower-for a total of 145-but this is mostly offset by the Cobalt's relatively hefty 3,200 lb curb weight. So the Cobalt's acceleration is more "confident" than it is quick. Still, the Cobalt feels peppy and responsive in routine driving, and its engine revs smoothly and evenly when pressed. While neither Cobalt cornered with the quick-witted sharpness of the Ford Focus and Mazda 3-the undisputed handlers of this class-the little Chevy is certainly a match for the Civic and Corolla in terms of winding-road satisfaction. The Civic's steering feels more natural than the Cobalt's, but its chassis understeers more, and its stiff, mushy brake pedal doesn't inspire confidence.
