usnews.com: Auto reviews: 2005 Chevrolet Corvette (4/6/05)
NITS: One huge complaint: The "1-to-4" forced shift on the manual transmission, a woeful innovation that has plagued the Corvette for several years. At low RPMs, the transmission is programmed to shunt a shift that would normally go from first gear to second gear into fourth gear instead. G-FORCES: The base engine is a barnstorming 400-horsepower V-8 that should probably only be driven by bald men, since it might curl the hair of anyone else. Speed freaks, however, can wait for the 500-horsepower Z06 Corvette due later this year. The Corvette handles almost as well as any car on the road, though such cutting-edge performance can still feel a bit bumpy on sore backs. If the 'Vette has a vulnerability, it is slowing down, not speeding up. Chevrolet has never been known for subtlety, and nothing has signified the brand's middle-American moxie like the bulging curves of the Corvette. The last version of the 'Vette began to mature, like an athlete whose tone and definition become more notable than the mere size of his muscles. And now, the completely redesigned 2005 Corvette emerges like a weightlifter who cross-trains by practicing ballet. The most notable change is the replacement of the Corvette's famous retracting headlamps with sleek, stationary bulbs that help form an Italianate front fascia. It's an intelligent evolution for a car that has a legitimate place as the poor man's-or rather, the merely affluent man's-Ferrari. Overall, the styling is remarkably clever.

Chevrolet Corvette C6-R - RSportsCars.com
The brand-new Corvette C6-R race car will debut at the 12 Hours of Sebring in March 2005 after a full year of rigorous testing and development. The two-car, factory-backed Chevrolet sports car program will compete in the production-based GT1 class (formerly GTS) of American Le Mans Series as well as the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans in France, a race where the Corvette has won its class for three out of the past four years. Like the C5-R before it, the Corvette C6-R starts from production roots: the same hydroformed frame rails that roll down the assembly line at the Corvette plant in Bowling Green , Kentucky are sourced for the structure of the race car. "At first glance, the shortened front and rear overhangs on the C6 would seem to present a challenge in developing a racecar with maximum aerodynamic downforce," said Steve Wesoloski , program engineering manager for Corvette Racing.
