The OK Used Car signs and lights at Jim McKay Chevrolet are probably from the early 1960s. Chevrolet developed its OK Used Car Warranty in the 1930s. Ford had their own plan called the A-1 Used Car Warranty and Lincoln-Mercury had their Safe Buy, Silver Crest and Gold Crest Warranties. Under the OK Used Car Warranty, dealers inspected, tested and repaired cars prior to sale. The dealer was then responsible for up to 50% of the cost of parts and labor for any repairs during the first 30 days. In the early 1960s, Chevrolet bumped up their contract to include a 5-year, 50,000 mile warranty. During this time, advertising and dealership signage prominently featured Chevrolet's OK seal-of-quality. Jim McKay has a flashier, new car showroom and lot down the road.

Car Clicks guide to trade ins.
As far as the determination of value, the lowest estimate will probably be from the dealer from whom you plan to buy a car (especially if you have secured a good price on the new car). In the majority of dealerships nationwide, the average gross profit on a used car is higher than that on a new car, even though the selling price is less. Why? Because dealerships make it a point to get trade-ins at the lowest possible price to ensure a higher gross profit when sold. Get a "buy number": Another potential source of information on the value of your car is from local dealerships that sell that make. Crazy as it seems, a lot of dealers will pay more money for cars bought from private individuals than they will for trade-ins. If you have a Chevy Suburban to trade, for example, take it to a Chevrolet dealer and ask for their buy price. Tell them you aren't buying anything, but want to know what they would pay for your vehicle as an outright purchase. You really aren't going to sell it to them (unless, of course, they make an exceptional offer), but if you decide that you want to trade the vehicle, you will have additional input as to its value.

In 1931, the dealership operation was moved to 603 South Fort Harrison Avenue. The Dimmitt Organization grew as Clearwater expanded and in 1952, Larry Dimmitt, Jr. (Second generation dealer) took over from his father. The Chevrolet-Cadillac dual dealership continued to grow and expand and in 1965, a separate dealership facility was provided for Cadillac at 907 Cleveland Street. The Chevrolet Dealership prospered at the original Fort Harrison location. In 1972, Lawrence Dimmitt, III (third generation dealer) took over the Chevrolet dealership from his father, who then continued as the Cadillac dealer on Cleveland Street. In 1975 the Chevrolet and Cadillac dealerships exchanged facilities and Chevrolet remained at its new location at 907 Cleveland Street in Clearwater until the fall of 1985.
