The manufacturers then have three choices in choosing how to fix the problem on a vehicle. The choices the manufacturers have are repair, replace or refund. The manufacturer is required to explain to the consumer how the problem will be fixed and when the recall will begin.
GM plans to recall 2 million vehicles - 04/26/05
The 1500 series of the Chevy Silverado between 1999-2002 and GMC Sierra pickups, the 2500 and 3500 series, between 2001-04, to repair the parking brake. The recall only affects trucks with manual transmissions, a total of 142,585 vehicles.

GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION is recalling 5,734 (2003) Chevrolet Avalanche, Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL SUVs. On certain vehicles, during a 30-degree left-angle frontal impact of sufficient severity, a tear could develop in the midframe cross member at its attachment to the left frame rail. If the mid-frame cross member tears during frontal impact and produces a sharp edge, contact of the sharp edge with the fuel tank could result in a puncture of the fuel tank and possible fuel leakage. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire. Dealers will install a fuel-tank shield. GM is also recalling 18,409 (2003) Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full-size vans. Some of these vans were built without a wheel-bearing-assembly retaining nut, which could lead to a possible bearing separation. If this were to occur, the anti-lock braking system (ABS) would be disabled. The driver would also notice a grinding noise and a decrease in vehicle speed, and the steering would pull in the direction of the affected bralce assembly. This could result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will insped the wheel-bearing assembly.

Occasionally, Chevrolet and GM will announce a recall on particular vehicles. If you are the original owner, Chevrolet and GM will notify you of a recall on your vehicle. If, however, you are the second owner, you may not receive a notice.

Porsche is recalling the 911 Cabriolet sports car to check the roof mechanism. The automaker says the recall affects 18,165 of the vehicles built between Aug. 11, 1993, and Jan. 26, 1998. The cars' soft tops could open unexpectedly at high speeds.
